Sedation Dentistry – Cortlandt, NY
Afraid of the Dentist? We Can Help
We want our patients to feel relaxed and welcome when they visit our dental office. To present a peaceful setting and make your visit enjoyable, we offer headphones for music and DVDs you can view during treatment. However, some patients may feel a level of anxiety about dental procedures that requires something beyond a minor distraction, while others might suffer from medical conditions that make it difficult to sit or lie in a chair for long periods of time without acute neck or back discomfort. If you require a deeper level of relaxation, Cortlandt dentist Dr. Taxin offers sedation dentistry to help you feel comfortable and at ease.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral sedation involves taking a pill before treatment that allows you to enter a state of deep relaxation. Typically, patients who choose oral sedation remain conscious and respond to our requests, but they don’t feel extreme nervousness or discomfort. We will be sure to monitor your vital signs throughout the process as well. Because of the medication’s lingering effects, a friend or relative must accompany you to the appointment and drive you home afterward.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
If the patient is only in need of a mild sedative, nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) may be the right choice. We will administer nitrous oxide mixed with oxygen to the patient through a nasal mask during the procedure, and its effects should begin within minutes. Patients will feel calmer and more content while still remaining aware of their surroundings and any requests from our team. The dosage can be easily adjusted at any time if the results are too strong or not strong enough for your personal needs and preferences.
Unlike oral conscious sedation, the use of nitrous oxide alone can be recovered from very quickly. You will be able to leave our Cortlandt office and immediately return to your regular routine in most cases – it’s even safe to drive yourself home! This benefit is ideal for busy patients who do not have a lot of free time to spare.
Don’t let fear or discomfort stop you from seeking the dental care you need for a healthy smile. It’s important that you maintain regular dental visits to ward off disease and maintain overall oral wellness. Contact our Cortlandt dental office today for your appointment or consultation. Be sure to let us know prior to your visit if you require sedation for your dental procedure.
